Venus

Surface images taken by the Soviet “Venera 9” space probe which touched down on the Venusian surface on October 22nd 1975. It was the first lander to return photographs from another planet.

Venera 9 measured clouds that were 30–40 km thick atmospheric chemicals including hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid, bromine, and iodine The surface pressure was measured to be 90x that on Earth, with a temperature of 485 °C. Light levels were equivalent to that of a cloudy Earth day. Venera 9 failed after around 53 minutes due to the extreme conditions on the planet.
